東芝は25日、1滴の血液から13種類のがんいずれかの有無を99%の精度で検出できる技術を開発し、2020年から実証試験を始めると発表した。東京医科大や国立がん研究センターとの共同研究に基づく成果で、数年以内の実用化を目指す。血液中に分泌される「マイクロRNA」と呼ばれる分子の種類や濃度を検査し、乳がんや膵臓がん、食道がん、胃がん、大腸がんなど13種のがんについて、ごく初期の段階でも発見できる。実用化すれば、生存率が高まることが期待される。東芝はRNAを短時間で簡便に検出できるチップや小型機器の開発に成功した。2時間以内に結果が判明するという。
